Summer 2008 Financial Aid
If you plan to take summer courses at UConn, and wish to apply for financial aid, please ensure that the following steps are completed by March 1, 2008 to be considered for the maximum amount of financial aid available:
- A 2008 Summer Financial Aid Application – all applicants who are applying for Federal Work-Study, Federal Stafford or Graduate PLUS loans.
- A valid 2007-2008 FAFSA form - to be considered for Summer Work-Study or remaining federal loan eligibility
- A 2007-2008 Plus Loan Information Form - for students whose parents are applying for a PLUS Loan
- A 2007-2008 Graduate/Professional PLUS Loan Information Form – for Graduate students who are applying a Grad PLUS Loan
- A loan application submitted directly with a lender of your choice - if applying for a private alternative loan
- Please consider exhausting all Federal Loan eligibility prior to applying for alternative loans. See Stafford Loan and Parent PLUS or Graduate PLUS eligibility.
Additional information is available for students enrolled in the Three Summers Program.
Types of Summer Financial Aid
The following types of financial aid are available for Summer 2008:
- Summer Work-Study - Distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Summer Federal Stafford Loan - Eligibility based on the previous fall/spring borrowing and annual loan limits per grade level.
Grade Level Annual Loan Total Freshman (0-23 credits) $3,500 / year Sophomore (24-53 credits) $4,500 / year Junior (54 + credits) $5,500 / year Graduate Student $20,500 / year
- Summer Federal Graduate or Parent PLUS Loan – Credit check conducted by lender to establish eligibility, loan limits based on summer cost of attendance.
- Summer Alternative Loan – When applying for a summer alternative loan, use the summer loan period of 05/12/08 – 08/15/08 on your application. To ensure the timely certification and disbursement of your loan request, you are encouraged to apply for an alternative loan by 08/02/08.
Disbursement Information
Students enrolled in Summer Session 1 and Summer Session 2 or in Summer Session 4 will have their loans disbursed in two even disbursements.
Summer Federal Pell Grants will not be disbursed until after July 23rd regardless of enrollment.
All summer charges, regardless of due date, will be paid prior to the issuance of any refunds. Please plan accordingly.
